Board Objectives / Functions

  1. Identify slum areas in the state and send the proposals to respective DC’s for its declaration as per Karnataka Slum Areas (Improvement and Clearance) Act 1973.
  2. Conduct socio-economic survey to study the socio-economic conditions of the slum dwellers.
  3. Take up the environmental improvement and development programs for redevelopment of slums.
  4. Enable the slum dwellers to live in hygienic condition by providing basic amenities, such as drinking water, street lights, roads, drains, community bathroom, storm water drain and community hall wherever possible.
  5. Build and distribute the houses to the eligible slum beneficiaries with the help of Central and State government grants.
  6. Host the programs using the ongoing government schemes to train on skill development, on improving economic conditions; and also to conduct IEC programs which brings social awareness to the slum dwellers on health and hygiene.
  7. Aimed at making Karnataka a slum free state under the Centrally sponsored Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Housing for all) scheme.
